Training of Trainers in May - 3rd cohort training

Thirty-two healthcare workers from across Malawi have successfully completed a five-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on Paediatric Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), held from 18th to 22nd May 2026 at Ekhaya Beach Resort in Mangochi. The training was organized by the Paediatric and Child Health Association of Malawi (PACHA) under the Malawi–Else Kröner Child Health Programme, a collaborative initiative aimed at improving the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of childhood NCDs in Malawi.

The workshop brought together nurses, clinical officers, and medical officers working in paediatric departments and paediatric NCD clinics from various districts across the country. Participants received intensive training on the management of common childhood NCDs, including asthma, type 1 diabetes, epilepsy, sickle cell disease, congenital and acquired heart diseases, paediatric cancers, kidney diseases, and developmental disabilities.

The training was facilitated by a multidisciplinary team of paediatric specialists comprising general paediatricians, a paediatric cardiologist, and a developmental paediatrician, the training employed interactive learning methods such as case-based discussions, role plays, group work, and practical exercises. Participants demonstrated significant improvement in knowledge and understanding of paediatric NCDs, as evidenced by the results of pre- and post-training assessments.
